Planning a trip to Lofoten this summer? Then don’t miss these incredible mountain hikes! Lofoten’s nature is unlike anything else – steep peaks rising straight from the fjords, turquoise-green waters, and white sandy beaches.

Last summer, Silje and Eivind explored the islands, climbing peaks that left them completely spellbound. From dramatic cliffs to charming fishing villages, every viewpoint offered something unforgettable. Here are five mountain hikes we think are worth adding to your list. If you don’t manage them all, be sure to try at least one!

1. Reinebringen (448 masl)

One of Norway’s most popular hikes, and with good reason. While not the highest peak, the panoramic views from the top are spectacular, stretching over the fishing village of Reine and the surrounding fjords.

The hike starts in Reine and follows a trail with Sherpa-built stone steps most of the way. It’s steep and demanding, but there are plenty of good resting spots along the route.

Time: about 1 hour to the top (depending on your physical level).

2. Mannen (400 masl)

A short but airy mountain hike – perfect under the midnight sun. The trail begins at the parking lot near Haukland Beach, one of Norway’s most famous white-sand beaches.

The path climbs gradually, with the final section narrowing slightly before reaching the summit. From the top, you’re rewarded with a stunning view over Haukland’s turquoise waters.

Time: about 2–3 hours round trip. We do not recommend doing this trip during the winter season.

3. Djevelporten/Fløya (590 masl) and Svolværgeita (569 masl)

This hike starts right outside Svolvær. The path begins by the church’s parking lot and continues up the hill. The path leads past the Sherpa steps, through open heath, and eventually splits: one trail leads to the iconic Svolværgeita – a climb only to be done with a professional guide – while the other continues to Djevelporten, where a stone block wedged between two cliffs. The path leading to Fløya continues upwards and along the back of the mountain. When you reach the top you’ll have a wonderful view over the centre of Svolvære. The trail is well maintained but airy in places.

Time: about 2 hours up, 1 hour down for Djevelporten/Fløya.

Climbing Svolværgeita takes about 4 hours with a guide.

4. Ryten (542 masl)

A true Lofoten classic, with postcard-perfect views over the true ocean and Kvalvika Beach. The trail can be done in different variations – including a detour down to the beach itself (Kvalvikastranden).

Starting from the parking at Fredvang School, the hike is suitable for families and offers breathtaking views from the ridge. Follow signs leading up to Einangen. If you continue on the path along the mountain ridge to your left, you’ll have the best view. It is steep, so be careful! At the summit, you’ll be standing 542 meters above the sea, looking down on one of Norway’s most beautiful beaches.

Time: about 1.5 hours round trip (depending on your physical level).

5. Festvågtinden (541 mabl)

This hike is challanging and steep but rewarding located just outside Henningsvær. The trail climbs sharply from the start and the start can be a bit tricky, but the reward at the top is a sweeping view of the fishing village and the surrounding sea.

On the way down, stop for a refreshing dip in Heiavatnet, then head back to Henningsvær for a well-deserved meal at one of the cozy cafés or restaurants.

Time: about 1,5 hours to the summit.

Travel Tip! No trip to Lofoten is complete without staying in a traditional fisherman’s cabin. We recommend the red cabins at Reine Rorbuer – built in the traditional style, perched on the water’s edge. Waking up to the sound of waves and the smell of sea air is an experience in itself.
