      TRAVEL SUGGESTION

In 2011 Elin and Graham gathered an adventurous group of friends of six couples who wanted to experience some of the most spectacular Svalbard has to offer!

“10 years later we still talk about this shared experience while arguing a little about who actually spotted the polar bear first…” – Elin.

      DAY 2-3: EXPEDITION

You are now in a part of the world where the forces of nature rule. That means that our exact roadmap the next days will be influenced by weather and ice conditions. The goal is to go ashore or do a boat trip with an inflatable boat every day. Examples of excursions we do and places we visit are:

      Vestre Spitsbergen:

      Western Spitsbergen:
The research village Ny-Ålesund lies in the picturesque Kongsfjorden and consists of a small collection of houses in bright colours. From here the polar heroes Amundsen and Nobile started their daring attempts to fly to the North Pole. A little further north lies Danskøya.

      DAY 4-6: EXPEDITION

Examples of excursions we do and places we visit are:

      Svalbard’s fjords:
Along the coast of Svalbard there are a number of magnificent fjords, which all are rich in wildlife.

If we continue even further into the fjord, you reach Lilliehöökfjorden. Here the ice on the fjord is often dense in front of the uniquely beautiful Lilliehöök glacier, which stretches over four kilometres. The scenic Raudfjorden is characterized by many glaciers and is a refuge for seals. The cliffs and beaches also offer a boiling birdlife.

      DAY 7: EXPEDITION

Examples of excursions we do and places we visit are:

      Hinlopen and Alkefjellet:
If we are lucky, the ice lets us into Hinlopen and under good conditions we reach Alkefjellet, a vertical and spectacular cliff that is a nesting site for almost 200,000 seabirds. Maybe we sail further into the beautiful Palanderbukta in the northeast.

      DAY 8-10: EXPEDITION

Examples of excursions we do and places we visit are:

      Eastern Spitsbergen:
In the northeast there are impressive islands covered by ice. Here are mile-long glacier fronts with melting waterfalls. Barentsøya and Edgeøya offer grand landscapes and enormous tundra plains. Here you also have good chances to see polar bears, walruses, arctic fox, and Svalbard reindeer.

      Southwestern Spitsbergen:
Hornsund’s grand fjords offer big glaciers that roll out into the sea between high mountains. The peaks often reach above the clouds. The glaciers in Hornsund are a favoured hangout for some of Svalbard’s many polar bears, and the big seal is often seen on the ice floes.
