NORTH-WEST OF NORWAY
Rugged coastal landscapes, island communities, steep mountains, sparkling fjords, and world-famous attractions. Get ready for adventure in Northwest Norway!
Northwest Norway consists of fjords, mountains, villages, and island communities, stretching from the steep Romsdal Alps around Åndalsnes, via one of the world’s most beautiful roadways, to the islands off the coast of Molde.
This part of Norway is perfect for those who enjoy exciting drives. If you come from Geiranger, you’ll descend Norway’s most visited tourist road, the Trollstigen, on your way to Åndalsnes. The road winds its way down the steep mountainside through 11 sharp bends. In Åndalsnes, you can embark on spectacular hikes, either the full Romsdalseggen ridge or a shorter version up to the viewpoint Rampestreken.
Along the coast, you can drive the Atlantic Road, which connects Averøy with the mainland. Take a break from driving and sail across to Håholmen in a Viking ship. Håholmen is a protected 18th-century fishing village, with buildings carefully preserved and partly reconstructed, so that today it appears authentic while meeting modern standards. Here you’ll find charming historic rooms, good opportunities to see sea eagles, and we highly recommend joining a fishing trip.
Out at sea, north and west of Molde, you’ll find many beautiful island communities. Go island hopping along the Romsdal coast and visit both Finnøy and Ona. Ona Lighthouse is perhaps the most famous attraction and is Norway’s southernmost living fishing village, with about 20 permanent residents. Experience the coastal culture, nature, and wildlife.
HIGHLIGHTS

ISLAND HOPPING ON THE ROMSDAL COAST
Explore the island communities of Molde. Both Finnøy and Ona offer accommodation options. Furthest out on the Romsdal coast lies Ona, with the open ocean as its closest neighbor. This means rich opportunities for those seeking adventure, as well as for those simply looking for peace and quiet. Experience coastal culture and nature at its most rugged.
We are happy to arrange fishing trips or a local guide who can share the island’s history.

ANGVIK OLD TRADING POST
Angvik Old Trading Post is a small gem on Tingvollfjorden. Angvik’s history dates back to the 1500s, when Dutch sailing ships anchored in the bay to purchase timber. The trading post was run by John and Gurianna Angvik, who had 14 children – 12 of whom went on to start their own businesses based in the village.
The hotel even has its own museum, where you can gain insight into the history of the Angvik family. Today, Angvik is a distinctive hotel surrounded by beautiful nature. In the restaurant, you can enjoy exquisite cuisine, and in a 1700s timber building, you can relax in the hotel’s spa.
THE ATLANTIC ROAD
The Atlantic Road (National Tourist Route) is a unique roadway that takes you all the way out to the open ocean. In 2005, the Atlantic Road was named Norway’s construction project of the century and is hailed as the world’s most beautiful drive.
