THE NATIONAL PARK KINGDOM

This region is home to six national parks – five of them with peaks over 2,000 meters. North-Gudbrandsdal is a paradise for both nature lovers and adventurers, offering rare wildlife encounters and unforgettable outdoor experiences. Here you can set out on a musk ox safari in Dovre, or glide through winter landscapes with your own dog team in Jotunheimen.

Collectively known as The National Park Kingdom, the parks of Jotunheimen, Rondane, Dovre, Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella, Breheimen, and Reinheimen make up one of Norway’s most spectacular natural regions. Towering mountains, varied terrain, and wide-open wilderness await hikers, climbers, and explorers.

The wildlife is as rich as the landscapes: musk ox, reindeer, moose, and capercaillie roam these areas. With experienced guides, you can approach the mighty musk ox on the high plains, or in winter, steer your own husky sled through valleys framed by snow-covered peaks. If luck is on your side, you might even spot “the king of the forest” – the moose – stepping quietly between the trees.

Gudbrandsdalen is also a region of proud traditions and farm culture. With fresh, locally sourced products, it has earned a reputation for world-class culinary experiences. This is where master chef Arne Brimi began his career, and where he still creates outstanding food today.
